Day 1 Off We Go- Oswego to Geneva NY

We took the busses up from Trenton NJ Saturday and arrived in Oswego in the late afternoon, giving us enough time to walk along the lakeside and enjoy great views of Lake Ontario. It was great to re-connect with old friends, and make plans for our first riding day.

My cycling crew consisted of a few happy fathers and their sons- namely myself with Adam (riding his second Anchor House), and my former long-time Anchor House room-mate and good friend Jack Hayon with his two sons, Ben (who did his first ride last year) and his oldest son GabE riding his first. We were happy to welcome back my good friend DJ on the ride, who missed last year's ride but who got us started on riding the Anchor House. This is DJ's 12th Anchor House ride.

Day 1 started and ended with fantastic summer weather with temps in the 70's and 80's. We began our ride cycling west along Lake Ontario, catching lovely views of the lake along the way.

Leaving the lake behind us, we headed south through rolling farmland and an Amish area, replete with buggies and horsepies. Love the watch for buggies sign!

We always appreciate and enjoy the great volunteers who take care of us all week, feeding us at the SAG stops and roving in vans to make sure we are safe. And just being silly and fun and making us smile!

Our cue sheets keep us on route, even when we encounter signs that make us scratch our heads and wonder which way to go! We rolled into Geneva NY around 2:45 PM, and carrying on with our lake theme, we're staying on the shores of lovely Lake Geneva. We logged 74 miles for the day, with about 3000 feet of climbing (no super long climbs, but lots of rollers). All in all a lovely day for cycling and for spending great quality time with our sons and great friends. After a dinner of Italian food (and a few beers compliments of River Horse brewery, one of our sponsors), we're ready for sleep and day 2 of the ride tomorrow- onto Corning.
